About Dave Wood and AMR
In 1995, I started the Agency Management Roundtable as a consulting firm that would work with small marketing communications firms....less than 25 employees.
As an agency owner for more than 20 years, I went to many industry meetings to try to learn more about the business.
What I learned was that the meetings were intended for larger companies and the information wasn't focused on "how to do things if you were not a large advertising agency."
I did find one guy who seemed to get it right. His name was Peter Wolfe, a Chiat-Day professional who held management meetings for owners that wanted to learn how to operate their business better. I attended several meetings and knew that Peter had the right idea: exclusively for 10-12 company owners and senior managers from small agencies participating in a facilitated presentation/discussion. It was dynamite!
Peter passed away and left a void in the market. No other consultant picked up where Peter left off.
I decided long before selling my agency in 1995 that I would build a consulting practice. The company, like Peter, would help owners of small firms operate their businesses better, send their kids (and those of their employees) to college, and someday retire with a nice nest egg. Agency Management Roundtable was focused on the "business" not the advertising clients created.
And, so, in 1995 the Agency Management Roundtable was born and I invited 10-12 owners to the very first roundtable in Orlando, Florida. It was a great success and was followed by eight more meetings over the next twelve months. People seemed to like what I had to offer, so they sent their friends and associates, and AMR was off the ground.
Today, dozens of those same owners belong to AMR agency networks that meet twice each year. We continue to work together to build their business through good times and bad. They have learned about running a business the "simple" way. They know that they have to work ON the business as well as work IN the business.
Over the years I have added programs on new business development, financial management, account executive training and others. All have been successful in their own right and continue to make a difference for both owners and employees.
I am listed on LinkedIn and FaceBook. I don't tweet.
I hope we will have a chance to meet someday across a management roundtable, or through your employees who attend an AMR workshop. AMR can make a difference in your personal success.
